It’s Media Literacy Week

October 23rd, 2023 marks the 9th annual U.S. Media Literacy Week. NAMLE (National Association for Media Literacy Education) is hosting with many ways for everyone to get involved, including virtual events. To read a list of events and find more information, please go to medialiteracyweek.us/events/list .

Each day will be focused on the different aspects of media literacy: Access, Analyze, Evaluate, Create, and Act.

All types of media are created by more people than ever before, making it extra important to learn the skills of analyzing and evaluating. This includes evaluating the media we ourselves are creating and sharing. From music and art, to social media, news, and more, asking questions like, “who created this and why?”, is something to keep in mind every day.

I see media literacy as an essential life skill that can increase empowerment, autonomy, and can better our mental health and connections with others.
